Sentinel Overview

NextDashboard

Last updated 1 year ago

Sentinel makes PeopleSoft simple. You can manage user security, review access, and submit security requests from one easy-to-use platform.

Gain visibility into user access with on-demand information and tools that can be used by security administrators, managers, data owners, and functional users.

Let's get started by reviewing Sentinel's core modules:

Manage access for users, roles, and permission lists.

Includes tools for assigning direct access, dynamic security, temporary access, and interactive security reports.

To be used by: Security Administrators

Review employee roles, sensitive data, privileged access, and segregation of duties.

Includes on-demand audit reporting tools.

To be used by: Supervisors, Data Owners, and Stakeholders

Submit, approve, and provision security requests.

Includes settings for workflows, auto-provisioning, and tools to create custom forms.

To be used by: Supervisors, Functional Leads, and Security Administrators

Application Fundamentals and Setup

There are two types of accounts in Sentinel: Admins and Non-admins.

  • Admins have access to all PeopleSoft Environments and Sentinel Modules & Submenus.

  • Non-admin users gain access to an Environment through an assigned Security Profile. Security Profiles determine access for Sentinel Modules & Submenus.

Environments

Sentinel can simultaneously support multiple PeopleSoft pillars (HR, FS, CS) and PeopleTools versions. Each environment provides access to the following:

  • User Accounts

  • Roles

  • Permission Lists

  • Security, Audit, and Compare Reports

Database Connections

Sentinel interacts with the PeopleSoft database using an ODBC or JDBC connection. A database account is required with the SYSADM type access for each PeopleSoft database.

The client is solely responsible for creating and maintaining their account credentials.

User Hub

Sentinel includes a consolidated list of users from all PeopleSoft environments, known as the User Hub. It provides the following benefits:

  • Global Search

  • Unified User List

  • Central Administration

  • Logins

Data Management

  • Data Encryption - All of the data that customers store with any of the OCI data services (Block Volumes including Boot Volumes, Object Storage, and File Storage) is protected by encryption keys that are securely stored and controlled by Oracle.

Maintenance & Updates

Sentinel automatically handles PeopleSoft application and PeopleTools updates. Additional configuration changes are not required.

  • Nightly Syncs - Identifies new objects, including customizations, and automatically recognizes new software and tools versions.

  • Real-Time Application Updates - Security updates between PeopleSoft and Sentinel are done in real-time. All security changes will be immediately visible in both systems.

History Log

Sentinel keeps a detailed record of all updates to Users, Roles, and Permission Lists.

  • A History tab is provided for each respective object.

  • A History report is accessible for each environment.

Sentinel also keeps a combined record of security updates for all PeopleSoft environments connected to Sentinel, known as the Security Log.

  • The Security Log is accessible from the Dashboard or the Settings page.

Sentinel’s Cloud Solution is hosted on (OCI) and includes the following key security features:

Data Privacy - Sentinel DOES NOT transmit or store any PII/ PCI, health, insurance, academic, or financial-related information. The application is designed to be .
